Alazha's sounds

Alazha had lots of different noises. At the end, for the last week, she was so quiet that I sometimes put my ear on her side to hear if her heart was still beating (and it was -- so fast and hard sometimes!).

Maybe her most heart-melting sound was her snores, which were mostly kind of quiet but super-adorable but got a bit louder in her old age. Yarrow tried to take a video of us snoring together one day apparently, but it didn't really work out.

As a kitten Ala's first sounds started off as little beeping sounds, as previously essayed about and which led to her name being Miss Beep then Bean then Jelly Bean then Jelly (it all goes back to the Beep). Apparently beeps and chirps are normal sounds for Maine Coons. They're not really meowers.

She did have a bossy meowing phase, though, that lasted maybe a year while we were on Belle Ile. She also developed this sort of eagle scream (not really screaming, just being bossy) when she wanted treats.

But for the 15 or 16 years before that, she was a very quiet kitty overall. Very ladylike an never pestering anyone (which contributes to how funny it was when she decided to develop her eagle-scream/meowing phase).

Also as previously mentioned, she had a special bird sound that was only to warn us when there were particularly annoying birds around. There weren't many places we lived that she had to use that one. Maybe the last place was our apartment in Banff, which had big windows and was surrounded by giant spruce trees and Rocky grey snowy mountains, and ravens and other birds sometimes visited the balcony (which I LOVED 'cause I love ravens). Ala was /not/ a fan of the ravens. Too much like those annoying black birds I mentioned in PEI, I guess. :)

Her purr was deep and rumbly and she could amplify it quite loudly when she wanted to. It was a rich, full, approving sound. She was mostly the strong silent type, though. But those were her sounds. <3 Adventure on, Ala. Drop by some time if you'd like to.
